A luxurious hotel in Trat, Soneva Kiri Resort & Residences, yesterday, July 1st, released a statement as a response to the police investigation and charges against two British directors and one Thai director regarding a villa fire incident on March 6th, as reported by local media outlets.
The announcement reported that a fire incident in March broke out at their villa number 63, a six-bedroom villa, that was occupied by guests at the time. The resort staff and local officials rushed to the scene and put out the fire. The damage was reported only in the villa, not spreading all over the resort.
Soneva Kiri expresses its deepest condolences for the incident and stressed that the insurance company is in the process of damage assessment of damages and liabilities. The hotel has also been in close and continuous communication with the guests and compensation is undergoing.
The hotel also stated that some information that was published on Thai media was inaccurate according to them and would like to clarify the facts through the announcement. The statement mainly mentions four points including:
- The police did not file any allegations against their foreign directors, nor they were summoned for interrogation.
- As said above, Soneva Kiri has always been fully cooperating with the authorities. The two foreign directors did not leave the country to escape legal proceedings, as stated in some news media, as they were not even present. No arrest warrants were issued nor were the directors accused of any wrongdoing. Additionally, they are not residents of Thailand and were not in the country at the time of the incident.
- A number of allegations that have been reported in some media outlets are inaccurate.
- According to the insurance company policy, any compensation cannot be paid out until after the investigation is concluded.
