Northern/Northeastern Thailand –
Several areas in northern and northeastern Thailand are facing flash floods since this morning, August 12th, due to widespread heavy rain caused by the ‘Mulan’ tropical depression.
According to the Thai Meteorological Department, the weakened depression would cause heavy to very heavy rains in some places in the North and the Northeast of Thailand today, resulting in possible flash floods and overflows especially along the foothills near waterways and lowlands.
Affected provinces include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Phitsanuloke, Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Nong Khai, and Udon Thani.
In Phu Sang district of Phayao province, flash floods from Nam Bong forest had reportedly engulfed villagers’ homes since 3:00 AM., forcing people to evacuate in the early morning. Provincial governor Sakrit Salakkham ordered relevant agencies to immediately facilitate the villagers while soldiers and volunteers also arrived to provide urgent assistance.
Meanwhile, landslides were reported in five districts of Nan province, namely Chiang Klang, Bo Kluea, Pua, Thung Chang, and Muang Districts.
Local residents were advised to evacuate to higher areas while the traffic officials were deployed to clear fallen trees, rocks, and debris on the road.
No injuries or deaths were reported as of the press time.
