Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O’Cha ordered urgent assistance and area recovery after flash floods had battered 11 provinces, caused by the ‘Mulan’ tropical depression on Friday.
Government spokesperson Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana told the press on Sunday, August 14th, that the Prime Minister ordered relevant authorities to monitor the impact of the Mulan storm that caused flooding in 11 provinces, 30 districts, 77 sub-districts, and 410 villages, especially in the north and the northeast.
Local authorities, military, and related government agencies were ordered to provide assistance to alleviate residents who suffered from the flooding, especially those who live in areas that are difficult to access and those who need special assistance.
“People living in the areas along the Mekong River, particularly in Loei, Nong Khai, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, and Ubon Ratchathani, are advised to closely monitor the water situation as the water level is likely to continue to increase during August 14-18, according to the Office of The National Water Resources,” Thanakorn added.
As of Sunday, the Meteorological Department reported that thundershowers are likely in the whole country and isolated heavy rains are possible in the North and the Northeast regions due to the weak southwest monsoon prevailing across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.
The weak wind and waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf are about 1 meter high and above 1 meter high in thundershowers.
