Koh Chang, Trat –
A French tourist’s body was found this morning, July 11th, after drowning and going missing for a day near Koh Chang’s Lonely Beach in the Trat province.
First, our previous story:
A Spanish tourist drowned while her French male companion went missing after both of them reportedly went swimming in the stormy sea at Koh Chang’s Lonely Beach in the Trat province on July 10th.
Now for our update:
Koh Chang District Chief Mr. Sirisak Phadungchok revealed that he and twenty other rescuers resumed a search for Mr. Ramkurrun (last name withheld), a 22-year-old French tourist who went missing after swimming in a stormy sea with another Spanish tourist Ms. Canellas, whose body was already discovered yesterday, July 10th.
The search began at 7:30 AM and lasted for two hours before the second victim’s body was found around 40 meters from the Lonely Beach, Sirisak said.
The District Chief also expressed his deepest condolences to the families of both victims and warned other tourists to heed the red flags, which indicated that the area was not suitable for swimming due to the storminess.
“The sea at Koh Chang is very stormy at this time of the year, so I warn tourists to strictly obey the red flag and not go swimming in the sea,” District Chief Sirisak said.
He carried on that he had already directed relevant officials to contact the Spanish and French embassies in order to notify the victims’ families of this unspeakable tragedy.
